The OTV Group (Vivendi) has successfully introduced two advanced waste water treatment processes in the United States and in Australia. In the United States, Krüger Inc. has received a first order for the BIOSTYR™ compact process. Under a contract worth euros 1.65 million ($ 1.7 million) the American subsidiary of the OTV group will supply 7 BIOSTYR™ cells to Freeport Water and Sewer Commission (Illinois). The facilities to be commissioned in the Fall 2001 will treat wastewater from 35,000 people.
The BIOSTYR™ process performs water upward filtering trough a fine granular material called BIOSTYRENE™ which floats when immersed. This very compact process combines biological degradation of pollution with clarification of the treated water in a single tank.
In Australia, where it has been launched six months ago, the ACTIFLO™ process’ performances were the reason behind the award to OTV-Krüger, the Australian subsidiary of the OTV group, of a contract worth some euros 2.44 million. It includes the design and the construction of a wastewater treatment plant at Shepparton (Victoria) with a treatment capacity of 25,000 m3 of water per day. The new facilities, to be completed next year, will remove phosphorus, algae and a range of other pollutants. This contract followed a successful pilot trial against strong competition from a range of alternatitve treatment processes.
ACTIFLO™ is a compact physical-chemical settling process combining the advantages of microsand ballasted floculation and lamellar settling. Its operating flexibility and the fact that operating conditions are reached very quickly make this process suitable for numerous applications both in wastewater treatment and in drinking water production.
