The Chilean Anti-Monopoly commission recently confirmed the acquisition of water utility Aguas Cordillera, by
EMOS -Empresa Metropolitana de Obras Sanitarias-, Chile's largest water company.
Formed last year by Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux and its Spanish business partner, Agbar, EMOS owns, operates and manages the water and waste water systems of Santiago, supplying water to 5 million inhabitants.
The acquisition, estimated at 185 million USD, includes the water and waste water facilities of Aguas Cordillera and its subsidiary EAP Los Dominicos.
Aguas Cordillera supplies water and waste water services to over 315,000 inhabitants in a residential area in the outskirts of Santiago, located to the North East of the city. This contract considerably reinforces EMOS's role in supplying water to Chile's capital and its surrounding areas. Furthermore, important synergies will be created by this extension into the suburbs of Sanitiago significantly improving water services to residents.
Lyonnaise des Eaux has been present in South America since the early 1990s in Buenos Aires, Cordoba and Santa Fe (Argentina), La Paz and El Alto (Bolivia), Limeira and Manaus (Brazil), et Bogota (Columbia).
