Lyonnaise des Eaux and Degrémont, Group Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux, today announced they have been selected as preferred bidder for the first international wastewater tender in the Republic of Korea.

This 24 year BOT contract (Build, Operate and Transfer) covers the design, construction and management of three sewage plants for a total daily volume of 75 000 m³ and an 85 km collecting network. Wastewater services will be supplied to the County of Yangju, in the province of Kyonggi. The Yangju population currently stands at 100 000 habitants but is predicted to reach 400 000 inhabitants in 2016 due to urban development. Kyonggi-Do, situated at 60 km outside Seoul is the largest province in South Korea and one of the most prosperous in the country.

Investment costs for the Consortium represent 90 million euros with turnover estimated at 230 million euros over the duration of the contract.

The consortium, formed with the respective participation of 60% by Lyonnaise des Eaux and Degrémont and 40 % by Hanwha (an important Korean Chaebol), is in the process of finalising financial terms and commitment with the Korean government. This project is the first of its kind in this country following significant changes in Korean legislation which aims to attract more foreign investment.
