Lyonnaise des Eaux through its German subsidiary Eurawasser has been awarded a concession and a BOT contract to supply 105,000 inhabitants with water and wastewater services in the Mecklenburg-Pomerania region, north east Germany.
The 25-year contracts represent a turnover of 15 million Euros per annum and 24 million Euro investment for the first year.
The concession contract was signed with an association of communes in the Mecklenburg-Pomerania region comprising 70,000 inhabitants. It provides for the supply of 4 million cubic metres of water and the treatment of 1.3 million cubic metres of wastewater. The main objectives are to improve services to customers, cut down users costs and make financial investment to rehabilitate existing wastewater treatment plants. This contract is the second largest concession in Germany, the first concession being in Rostock.
The BOT contract was signed with the city of Gustrow. It provides for the design, construction and management of a wastewater plant to treat 2.4 million cubic metres per year for the 35,000 inhabitants of the city.
Lyonnaise des Eaux further strengthens its leading position in the Mecklenburg-Pomerania region where the company currently provides services for 20% of the total population. It creates a synergy with Lyonnaise des Eaux existing concession in Rostock signed in 1993.
Last February Lyonnaise des Eaux also signed a contract with the city of Kreinsen in Saxony to supply 12,000 inhabitants in water and wastewater services, generating 2.3 million Euro turnover.
Lyonnaise des Eaux operates in Germany since 1990 and serves 650,000 inhabitants. The company manages the water and wastewater services for the cities of Potsdam, Leuna and Rostock, and the wastewater services for the city of Goslar.
