The structure was inaugurated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI, in the presence of Jérôme Monod, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux and Chairman of Lyonnaise des Eaux de Casablanca, together with numerous leading Moroccan personalities including the Chairman of the Casablanca Urban District Council.
This structure will greatly improve management of the city's sewerage system, protecting certain neighborhoods in the Urban District of Casablanca where regular flooding used to disrupt city life.

The project, representing an investment of more than 17 million euros (180 million dirhams), took 18 months to build and employed up to 500 people. The storm water drain has an overall length of 4,700 meters and required the removal of some 90,000 m3 of material. It is part of a program of work worth an estimated nearly 3 billion euro (30 billion dirhams) planned over the lifetime of the contract. To protect the environment and minimize inconvenience, all of the construction work was carried out in an underground gallery.

Since taking over responsibility for sewerage in Casablanca, protecting the city's population has been a key priority of Lyonnaise des Eaux de Casablanca. Substantial progress has already been achieved thanks to a continuous program of mains cleaning and maintenance, backed up by specific work on certain high-risk zones, and a major preventive policy.

Since April 1997, Lyonnaise des Eaux de Casablanca has been under a 30-year contract to the Urban District Council of Casablanca to manage the distribution of electricity and drinking water, and its sewerage system, serving a population of nearly 4 million.
