Marseilles renews Degrémont’s contract to operate its sludge treatment plant

The City of Marseilles recently renewed the contract held by Degrémont (Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux Group) to operate its sludge treatment plant. The renewal is for a period of nine years.

Built by Degrémont in 1986 and designed to fit in with its environment, the plant is located in La Cayolle, a former quarry located in a conservation area of rocky inlets. This location reflects the decision taken by the City of Marseilles to treat sewage plant sludge away from urban areas. The sludge is thickened, dewatered and dried using a thermal process that enables its re-use in agriculture or sylviculture.

Last February, Degrémont received ISO 9002 certification for operation of the plant, demonstrating its ability to ensure that the facility operates in optimized conditions.
