Nexans France and Hadwaco recently signed a contract for the delivery of a MVR evaporation unit, for the purification of the industrial effluent of Chauny Mill. The total cost of the project, including the Hadwaco evaporator is 3,000,000 €.
This order represents the entry of Hadwaco into the French market and is Nexans' second contract with Hadwaco in half a year, following the first order of a Hadwaco evaporation unit by Alcatel Câbles Canada Inc.
The Hadwaco evaporation unit has been started up in Canada during last spring. The Hadwaco unit in Chauny will be delivered in France by the end of this year.
Thanks to an efficient separation of the dissolved solids from the effluent, evaporation as a process technically provides the best solution to close the water loop.
Rinsing effluent from surface treatment process (about 300 m3/day) is purified by the Hadwaco evaporator. More than 95% of the incoming effluent, as a high quality distillate, is recycled back as process water. Copper and other chemicals contained in the concentrate are recovered for reuse in the process.
The use of the Hadwaco evaporator, by improving the rinsing water quality, provides benefits such as decreasing the chemicals consumption, improving the product quality and minimizing the environmental impact.
The process conditions are aggressive, resulting in both high capital and energy costs for conventional systems. The new, innovative Hadwaco evaporation system provided Nexans a feasible solution since the key parts of the Hadwaco system are manufactured of corrosion proof polymeric materials. It also features large evaporative polymeric surfaces - which significantly decreased the energy consumption.
This first installation in France confirms the interest of using Hadwaco evaporation process to purify surface treatment effluents.
