Degrémont, a subsidiary of Suez Lyonnaise des Eaux, has won a number of contracts for the thermal drying of sludge, on the strength of its Narathermâ process.By removing virtually all water from the sludge, the process achieves a four-fold reduction in volume with a substantial decrease in storage and haulage costs. The end product is still suitable for all final disposal options (agricultural re-use, landfilling and incineration).
Degrémont is currently building thermal drying units at Galashiels (Scotland), Barrow and Workington (England). Further projects are planned at Levenmouth and Ayrshire (Scotland) as well as in the French cities of Millau and Maubeuge.
Thermal drying of sludge is a booming market; growth is driven primarily by emerging legislation in the area of sludge treatment. Degrémont responds to these developments with a reliable technical offering drawing on its knowledge of local context and its expertise in this technology.
