Ciba Specialty Chemicals announced today the formation of an enlarged global Additives division by combining the group's water treatments operations with Ciba's leading additives business. This move is intended to better utilise global resources in order to further build the business. A new Global Business Unit (BU) Water Treatments will be formed within the Additives division and the change will formally take effect 1 March 1999. The new BU will be headquartered in Basel, Switzerland, with the Bradford, UK, facility continuing as the global centre for acrylic chemistry innovation and production.

Walter Meyer, currently Head of global BU Pollution Control, Mineral Processing and Industrial Water for Ciba Water Treatments will assume leadership of the new Business Unit. Dr Meyer has an established track record in international business particularly in additives, and more recently undertook the additional responsibility of Integration Manager for the transition of Allied Colloids into Ciba. David Farrar, currently head of Water Treatments, will leave the company in April 1999.
