Anglian Water ranked first in race for world’s largest water contract - Beijing No. 10
Anglian Water, in partnership with Mitsubishi, has been invited to enter the final stage of negotiations for the largest water contract currently available in the international water market.
Serving the Chinese capital, the US$200 million contract, ‘Beijing No.10’, is to design, build and operate a water treatment plant for twenty years, to provide safe drinking water for 2 million Beijing residents.
The plant is needed to help meet future demand as Beijing continues to expand, making new water resources essential. To help do this, a 76 kilometre pipeline (2.2 metre diameter) will be built to bring extra water for treatment from the Miyun Reservoir.
Tony Eckford, Managing Director of Anglian Water International said; 'We know that this scheme will benefit Beijing residents and also believe that it will help Beijing and China in their bid to host the 2008 Olympic games.
'China is an extremely important market and PURAC, our process engineering arm, has won over 30 contracts in recent years. Moving to the final stage with Beijing 10 is a clear sign that Anglian Water is now regarded as one of the best water companies operating in the world today.'
