Esval serves a population of 1.3 million in a coastal area to the north and west of Chile’s Metropolitan Region. As well as being home to Valparaiso, one of Chile’s most important ports, the region is also home to tourist destinations such as Vina del Mar and Concon.
Esval was the first Chilean water company to be privatised in April 1999, when Anglian Water, with it’s then partner
Enersis, took a controlling stake. The transaction signed today, to purchase the Enersis shares, now gives Anglian Water a controlling interest in Esval.
Commenting on the deal Tony Eckford, managing director of Anglian Water International, said: “We are delighted to have completed this transaction in Chile which clearly indicates our commitment to South America.
“This is the third international success we have had in the past five weeks. In Europe we now serve more than 10 percent of the population in the Czech Republic following a recent win in Beroun. We have just added Hexian, a 20-year operational contract, to our portfolio of almost 30 design and build contracts won in China.
“With these successes and our acquisition in Chile, Anglian Water now serves more customers overseas, than in the United Kingdom.
