In a UK first for a utility, on 8 September, Anglian Water, through its new subsidiary company Anglian Water Direct, is launching an Internet and telephone shopping service. This service will enable customers to purchase more than 5,000 home appliances from the comfort of their armchair.

According to Anglian Water Direct’s managing director, Ian Stokes, “Anglian Water has an excellent track record as an innovative and progressive water company; on metering, new tariff development, leakage and the environment. We believe it makes good sense to utilise new Internet and telecomms technology to create new, convenient services for our customers.”

For the launch, Anglian Water Direct has special offers on some water-efficient washing machines and dishwashers. So customers can not only save money, but also help conserve water.

Ian said that Anglian Water Direct will offer the best brands at some of the lowest prices in the UK. “If customers find them cheaper on the High Street within seven days of purchase, we will refund 110 per cent of the difference *.

“Research showed us that customers want Anglian Water to offer them more than water and wastewater services. Anglian Water Direct has been designed to offer a range of products and services which will enhance customers’ home or working environments.

“The new home appliance shopping service is a very exciting first for Anglian Water, and we are confident that our customers will appreciate the convenience of being able to buy high-quality products from their own homes.”

Anglian Water Direct is a separate company from the regulated water and wastewater business, and is not being funded through customers’ bills.

Home Appliances
Customers can shop for home appliances at Anglian Water Direct by ‘phoning 01295 755 030. Opening hours are Monday to Friday 9am-7pm and Saturday 9am-5pm. Anglian Water Direct can also be reached through the Internet on www.anglianwaterdirect.com. Customers can browse and buy from the site which features more than 5,000 products. The site and ‘phone line will be open for business from Wednesday 8 September.

Anglian Water Direct has teamed up with Value Direct, a Consumers’ Association approved web trader, to offer customers the best brands direct over the phone, or the Internet, at some of the lowest prices in the UK.

If a customer spends over £100 on any home appliance product, it will be delivered free of charge to any address on the UK mainland. (Spend £100 or less and the delivery charge is only £4.50).

* Home Appliances Price Promise. 110 per cent of the price difference will be refunded if a customer finds the same product, boxed and brand new, cheaper (including delivery to the customer’s home), up to seven days after purchase. Customers must provide advertisement or price list.
