On Saturday 28 August, Anglian Water and Road King Infrastructure Limited signed a cooperation agreement to explore new business opportunities in Hong Kong and mainland China. In Hong Kong, the Government’s move towards the privatisation of the Water Supplies Department presents attractive opportunities for companies with the necessary expertise and commitment. Together, Anglian Water and Road King will focus on participating in water supply projects arising from the privatisation.
China is a major emerging market, where supply of clean water and efficient wastewater treatment are essential. Opportunities include greenfield sites where treatment plants can be built, build-operate-own-transfer (BOOT) contracts, and the chance to run existing assets for municipalities.
Anglian Water is geographically the largest water company in the UK. It provides water and wastewater treatment services to over 10 million people throughout Europe, the Americas and Asia.
Anglian Water and its subsidiary engineering company are already successful in China with some £100 million of awarded contracts in place. The Anglian Water group has recently completed work on Liuzhou water treatment works (population 1.8 million) in southern China, and is currently working on Zhangjiagang water treatment works north of Shanghai. The group has also supplied sophisticated water treatment for the city of Hepu in southern China.
Road King Infrastructure Limited is the Hong Kong listed company specializing in the investment, development, operation and management of infrastructure projects in China. Road King has built up an unrivalled reputation for its ability to develop high-quality infrastructure projects.
The strength of the new Anglian Water and Road King team lies in the partnership between Anglian Water’s highly-qualified, technical experts in water and wastewater treatment, and Road King’s extensive project management and investment experience, coupled with their established reputation in the region.
William Zen, Chairman of Road King Infrastructure Limited, also said: “We are delighted to join forces with Anglian Water to look into opportunities of water projects which meet our investment criteria. We are particularly keen on developing the Water Supplies Department Privatization Scheme in Hong Kong.”
