The Water Supplies Department today (Sunday) warned residents against illegal use of water from fire service installations for non-fire fighting purposes.
"Offenders are liable to a maximum fine of $5,000," a spokesman for the department said.
The spokesman noted that two recent cases in which the offenders were found guilty of taking water from fire service installations for cleansing purposes. They were fined $1,000 and $4,000 respectively.
In addition, 10 contractors had been fined between $1,000 and $5,000 for illegal use of water from street hydrants for construction purposes in Tai Po, Tseung Kwan O, Mong Kok, Kwun Tong, Tsuen Wan, Ho Man Tin and Hong Kong Island.
