BP Lavéra, a subsidiary of BP France specializing in oil refining, signed a ten-year cooperation agreement with Vivendi Water covering the treatment of effluent from its refinery. The facility is located in the Etang de Berre industrial site in the south of France.
Under the terms of the agreement, Vivendi Water will operate and maintain the treatment facilities for hydrocarbon-laden effluent. The facilities have a daily capacity of 7,000 cubic meters (2.5 million cubic meters per year), and operate 24 hours a day all year round. A team of eight people works permanently on this task. The main treatment phases are:
- effluent clarification
- separation of the hydrocarbons from the water
- recycling of the hydrocarbons recovered from the refining process
- filtration and biological treatment of the effluent waters before their discharge into the marine environment.
Alongside these services, a capital investment program will optimize and improve the quality of effluent treatment. The BP Lavéra plant already has ISO 14001 certification.
The agreement was concluded with the support of BetzDearborn, a company specializing in the supply of chemical reagents for water treatment and associated services.
The BP Lavéra refinery, classed a SEVESO site, transforms an annual 10 million metric tons of crude oil into various petroleum products for consumers and the chemical industry. The treatment solutions to be implemented by Vivendi Water will meet in full environmental requirements and improve the efficiency of the facilities as well as the operating costs.
