Net
sales increase 41.3% to 12.1 billion euros
Confirmation
of strong internal growth: +12.8%
57.4%
of net sales generated outside France
The
net sales of Vivendi Environnement increased 41.3% to 12.1 billion euros
at June 30, 2000 compared with 8.5 billion euros for the first half
of 1999. The group also manages water contracts held by the Vivendi
holding company. Including these contracts, total economic net sales
reached 12.5 billion euros compared with 8.9 billion euros for the same
period in 1999.
The
increase integrates the impact of acquisitions made in 1999 and at the
beginning of 2000. These include USFilter in the water sector and Superior
Services in the waste management sector, both of which strengthened
the group's operations in the United States. In total, changes to the
scope of consolidation had an impact on net sales of 1.8 billion euros,
taking into account the planned disposal of the Kinetics subsidiary
in the USA. Exchange rate variations had a positive impact of 0.4 billion
euros.
Internal
growth reached 12.8%.
In
the water sector, net sales rose 55.3% to reach 5.6 billion euros
(6 billion euros for total economic net sales). This strong growth is
due both to the acquisition of USFilter and to organic growth of 12.3%,
as a result of the development of the water sector's business in European
countries other than France and in the USA.
In
the waste management sector, net sales increased 56.8% to 2.4
billion euros. Internal growth was 13.4%, and was strong both in and
outside France.
In
the energy sector, net sales rose from 1.4 to 1.6 billion euros.
This 11.9% increase is mainly due to continued expansion in Eastern
Europe and to the commissioning of cogeneration plants.
In
the transport sector, net sales were 1.5 billion euros. Including
the impact of the acquisition of some of the subsidiaries of the GTI
group with effect from January 1, 2000, the increase is 37.2%. If the
impact of this acquisition is excluded, growth in net sales is around
19%.
The
portion of net sales generated outside France increased greatly, both
as a result of acquisitions and particularly strong internal growth.
The share of net sales outside France rose from 46.7% to 57.4% between
the first halves of 1999 and 2000.
These
overall performances confirm Vivendi Environnement's capacity for growth
in its four businesses and meet the ambitious medium-term targets the
group has set.
