Seghers Keppel Technology Group has been awarded the contract for 2 sludge drying & pelletising installations for Atlanta City, USA.
The HARDpelletiser units will replace existing multiple hearth incinerators on two Atlanta wastewater treatment plants. Both plants have full secondary treatment, anaerobic digesters and centrifuges for mechanical dewatering of the sludge. One plant with a capacity of 4.5 tonnes of water per hour will be installed in the Utoy Creek WWTP (44 MGD or 165.000 m3/d). The second unit will be installed in the Clayton WWTP (100 MGD or 380.000 m3/d). This dryer has a capacity of 6.7 tonnes of water per hour.
USFilter of California, USA, is responsible for the construction of the plant and will operate and maintain the plant as part of a DBO contract. Seghers Keppel Technology will provide the engineering and supply of core equipment.
The purpose of the project is to convert sewage sludge produced at the WWTP into high quality pellets with potential commercial value and to help the city cut down on incineration plant emissions. The pelletised product is ranked Class A according to the US EPA 503 regulations, and will be available for direct application as fertiliser and soil conditioner.
