SEGHERSbetter technology closes 200 million BEF contract with the Spanish Petrochemical Company (part of the group ELF, TOTAL-FINA)

SEGHERSbetter technology Iberica SA and Interquisa (100% subsidiary of CEPSA) have signed an agreement for the design and construction of a turn-key waste-to-energy plant in San Roque, South of Spain. Interquisa is a chemical plant producing the raw materials for the production of PET-bottles (Terephtalic Acid, Polyterephtalic Acid and Dimethyl Terephtalic Acid). CEPSA is the Spanish Petrochemical company belonging to the group ELF, TOTAL-FINA.

The contract - with a value of 200 million BEF (800 million Ptas - 5 million Euro) - includes the key technology of the SEGHERSmulti fuel fluidized bed. This technology is based on a fluidised bed for the thermal valorisation (energy recovery) of high calorific wastes and by-products. After the treatment of this waste, the heat of the flue gasses is efficiently recovered by the production of process steam which is used in external processes.

The SEGHERSmulti fuel was selected by the customer primarily because of SEGHERSbetter technology's experience with fluidised bed combustion of special products. Only a couple of months ago, SEGHERSbetter technology won a contract in Spain to build a "bio-mass to energy" plant in Tarragona based on the same technology.

Not less than 5 different streams are to be treated. These industrial flows are a mixture of sludge from the customer's water treatment plant and different by-products of the production plant. This mixture is difficult to control - both in composition and form (gas, sludge, pasta and solid) - thus requiring a flexible system.

The installation will recover 3 tons per hour of waste into more than 6MW thermal capacity.

Additionally, the steamgeneration by combustion of high calorific wastes requires the process control know-how which SEGHERSbetter technology has developed while solving waste problems around the world. The stringent emission standards to which the plant has to comply requires the extensive know-how of SEGHERSbetter technology concerning flue gas cleaning.

The time frame in which the installation has to be completed is very stringent: the complete installation will be fully operational after a mere 19 months.

With this success, SEGHERSbetter technology expands its presence in the growing market of the chemical and pertrochemical industry. It also strengthens SEGHERSbetter technology's leadership in the area of high tech environmental solutions for the industry in general.

SEGHERSbetter technology is a global company developing and offering high tech solutions for the treatment of solid waste, water, sludge, flue gas with energy recovery and full service for the industry. The SEGHERSbetter technology systems are suitable for both private and public sector applications. The group consists of three operational units: solids+clean energy, water and services +machinery, and employs more than 1000 highly qualified professionals. Originally a European company, SEGHERSbetter technology is worldwide recognised as the leading hi-tech company and deploys a high activity in Asia and America (our full reference list obtainable on simple demand).
