Ondeo selected as preferred bidder for a wastewater contract in Greater Amman, Jordan
Part of the Samra Plant Consortium, it will manage a 25 year BOT contract for initial investments worth 150 million USD. The As Samra plant will treat the wastewater of over 2 million inhabitants in Greater Amman
Paris, January 21, 2002…. Following an international tender, the Jordanian authorities have selected the Samra Plant Consortium for a 25 year wastewater contract. The mainly American consortium is made up of two SUEZ water companies (Ondeo Services, Ondeo Degrémont USA) and Morganti USA. It will be responsible for the development, design, construction, operation and financing of the new As-Samra wastewater treatment plant.
The project represents an initial investment of 150 millions USD and will be carried out on a Build Operate and Transfer (BOT) basis. The United States Agency for International Development (USAID) will defray up to half the cost of the plant.
The As-Samra plant will treat sewage from over 2 million inhabitants in Amman and surrounding areas. It will be able to handle an average flow of 267 000 m3/day and a maximum flow of 530 000 m3/day. Furthermore, technically advanced solutions will be used to treat both sewage (activated sludge and primary settling) and biosolids (digestion and composting) to the highest standards.
SPC brings together companies with a historic presence in Jordan and neighbouring countries. Due to its scarce water resources, this region has significant infrastructure needs for both water supply and wastewater treatment.
With this BOT, Ondeo strengthens its presence in Jordan and underlines its capacity to provide sustainable solutions that protect the environment. Ondeo Services, the world’s leading water management company, has been present in the country since 1999 through LEMA its local subsidiary that manages water distribution for Amman.
Ondeo is the premier water-related solution provider, supplying 115 million consumers with water and wastewater services, providing services to 60,000 industrial customers, and has built more than 10,000 water treatment plants world-wide. Ondeo comprises 4 main companies: Ondeo Services, Ondeo Nalco, Ondeo Degrémont and Ondeo Industrial Solutions. Ondeo is a wholly-owned subsidiary of SUEZ.
