An agreement between the Greater Vancouver Water District (GVWD) and the District of North
Vancouver to secure temporary and permanent rights-of-way for the construction of the Seymour access
shaft and related works within Lynn Canyon Park was announced today.
The Seymour access shaft is part of the Seymour-Capilano Filtration Project underway on the North
Shore, and will provide access for construction of the twin tunnels connecting the Seymour and
Capilano watersheds.
“Filtering Seymour and Capilano water sources will provide significant benefits to the region,” said
GVRD Water Committee Chair, Derek Corrigan. “In addition to improving the quality of our drinking
water and the livability of the region, proposed energy recovery plans at the Capilano site will help
offset part of the operating costs of the project.”
The GVWD will contribute $1,000,000 for land rights-of-way, restoration of the shaft construction site
and improvements within Lynn Canyon Park.
“This is a cooperative process between GVWD, the District of North Vancouver and the local
community,” said District of North Vancouver Mayor Don Bell. “While we do recognize there will be
disruptions within the park during this project, we are working together to minimize the impact of
construction on public access, plant and wildlife habitat.”
Tree clearing at the Lynn Canyon Park shaft site will begin next week to ensure this portion of the work
takes place before the nesting period of local birds.
